PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Domestic Violence Program Director the Child Care and Nutrition Specialist is to provide quality supervision of children, birth to 17 years of age during routine and/or special shelter functions.  The Child Care and Nutrition Specialist is responsible for supervision of children who have witnessed or been victims of domestic or sexual violence.

The Child Care and Nutrition Specialist is to maintain compliance and accurate reporting to funding sources. This employee is responsible for maintaining and educating shelter residents on proper nutrition for the entire family, meal planning, cooking, cost saving education, and shelter grocery shopping.  The Child Care and Nutrition Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining proper food storage and overseeing meal preparations in compliance with health standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Child Care and Nutrition Specialist shall be at least 21 years of age.  The Child Care and Nutrition Specialist must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.  Prior experience working directly with children is preferred.  Employee must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license with current auto insurance.  The employee must have access to a vehicle.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure confidentiality and safety of service participants
  2. Responsible for providing quality and interactive supervision of children, birth to 17 years of age
  3. Responsible for creating and maintaining current resident meal assignments
  4. Responsible for shelter meal planning and grocery shopping
  5. Responsible for facilitating nutrition and food cost savings education
  6. Responsible for maintaining written documentation for funding sources
  7. Responsible for ensuring adequate usage and purchase of shelter food
  8. Responsible for accurately completing reports for funding sources
  9. Responsible for maintaining proper shelter food storage and passing health inspections
  10. Responsible for facilitating shelter meals and occasionally cooking meals
  11. Must be able to communicate effectively in a crisis situation
  12. Must be able to attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings
  13. Must be able to routinely lift 20-50 pounds
  14. Must be able to self-start, work independently and as part of a team
  15. Must be able to work positively in a high paced environment
  16. Other duties as may be assigned
